About the LWV

Our Mission: The League of Women Voters of Juneau (LWVJ), is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government. We work to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influence local public policy through education and advocacy.

The Juneau league is part of the National League of Women Voters (LWV).

The LWV was established in 1920 when women first gained the right to vote. It works hard to improve government at all levels, and to engage  citizens in the decisions that impact their lives.  Our issues are grounded in our mission of making democracy work for all citizens. Membership is open to all interested persons who are at least 16 years of age.

Maintaining an effectively functioning democracy is hard work at all levels of government and we can always use more help. If you find our website useful, we encourage you to become a member.  All Juneau LWV members are also automatically members of the League of Women Voters of Alaska (LWVAK), and of the League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS).
